For example, Virat Kohli is the richest Indian cricketer who has many properties in posh localities of India such as Gurugram and Mumbai. You may wonder how he made this much of his income to buy properties in these locations. The answer to your question lies here and we will discuss the salaries of Indian cricketers, and if you are interested in knowing about the same, keep reading the post further.

How BCCI Gives Salaries to Current Indian Cricketers?

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is the principal body that looks after cricket affairs in India whether you talk about at the central level, state level, or district level. BCCI has divided Indian cricketers on the basis of international matches they play in a year into four categories. They have divided players into four grades, which are namely: A+, A, B, and C.

Each player in the grade has a yearly contract between BCCI and them and based on that contract, they are paid. For your information, each grade’s player is paid a different amount and the remuneration they get is:

Grade NameAmount in INR
A+7 Crore
A5 Crore
B3 Crore
C1 Crore

This contract is not for every cricketer but is for Indian cricketers who play at least a single match for India in a year. Based on the number of matches played and seniority, players are allotted a grade and they will get the annual retention amount accordingly. Apart from this retention amount, each player who is selected for the Indian National team gets paid for every match played. The remuneration for each cricket format is different meaning players get a different amount for playing a Test match, ODI match, and T20 match.

How a Player’s Grade Decides His Fate?

A player with an A+ grade is most likely all cricket betting sites favorite because players with exceptional cricketing skills are kept in the A+ grade category. If we talk about the current players in the Indian Men’s Cricket team, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja are the only four players who are included in the A+ category. It means they are the ones who get the highest retention amount.

  • Grade Promotion/Demotion

The grade of an Indian cricketer is decided based on their performance and form. A player who gives brilliant performance throughout a year will likely get promoted to a higher grade but if a player does not perform well for some time, they can be demoted to a lower grade or even kept out of the central contract. It means if any Indian cricketer wants their central contract to be kept as normal or wants a promotion, they need to perform well at any cost.

  • Bonuses and Awards

As discussed apart from grade pay, Indian cricketers enjoy many other monetary benefits as being a member of the Indian national team. When we say bonuses and awards, it means additional money than grade pay. For example, the Indian Men’s Cricket team after winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and ICC Champions Trophy 2025 was awarded INR 125 crore and INR 58 Crore respectively. That amount was divided among players apart from the prize money for the winners.

The amount talked about was awarded to the entire team but any cricketer can’t be in the Indian team without performance. It means as an Indian cricketer if you perform well, you are paid more than your remuneration.

  • Additional Benefits

As a member of the Indian cricket team, you enjoy many other additional benefits than your pay which include, medical assistance, travel reimbursements, and access to state-of-the-art training facilities. Also, you have many other opportunities coming your way, such as participation in the Indian Premier League, where you get to make huge sums by playing and doing advertisements.
